But it may suit you better to call on one of the great volunteer organizations in Portland who match up experts with businesses, and provide free consulting services on a wide variety of topics apropos to your business! Check out SCORE, part of the United States Small Business Administration. Your tax dollars help fund the Small Business Administration, so feel free to use them!
Portland’s Mercy Corps “MicroMentor Program”, is another great resource. MicroMentor is just what the names says: the connect your small business with a mentor who is “expert” in your field. S/he can help you avoid many of the speed bumps that come with building a business.
Entrepreneur.com, is a good resource for people just contemplating starting a business. In addition to all sorts of free online tools and advice, you can purchase step-by-step manuals for starting many different kinds of businesses. Or perhaps you are interested in buying a franchise? Their guide will give you a road map to doing so. They even have software to help you write a business plan!
